About Me

Vision of Future
Thank you for stopping by my “About Me” page.

Let me start with a confession: “Consistency is Power” is a saying that highlights something I’ve been sorely lacking throughout my life.

I’ve been around for quite a while, so I’ve had my fair share of experiences, both good and bad. But if you asked me, “So what?” I’m afraid I wouldn’t have much of a meaningful answer.

I suspect that many people who have lived long lives look back and feel that theirs was an utterly ordinary, uneventful one. But does that make it a boring life, simply because it lacked drama? Hmm... boring or not, I’d argue that such people may well have lived very happy lives.

On TV, a life like that might make for a dull story. But life isn’t a story put on for an audience. It belongs to the person living it, and whether it entertains anyone else is beside the point.

...Yes, I’m the sort of person who loves letting my imagination run wild and scribbling down whatever comes to mind. I also love a good joke—so much so that people sometimes tell me to tone it down.

If there’s anything that sets my blog apart, I suppose it’s the way I look at social phenomena from a somewhat different angle—or at least, that’s what I try to do.

Here are a few things I keep in mind when I write:

  • I have a habit of looking at things from a different angle, including the conventional wisdom put forward by the media and certain experts. Even when I think I’ve come up with a fresh perspective, there’s little point in expressing it in a way that makes readers uncomfortable, so I try to choose my words carefully.

  • My topics are all over the place, and I don’t set out to provide any particular kind of information. I mostly write about whatever happens to interest me at the time.

  • I don’t like to pontificate or talk down to readers. That said, I won’t claim I never do.

  • I also dislike the habit, some bloggers have, of name-dropping famous people to make themselves sound smarter. I’d rather speak honestly, in my own words and on my own terms. Perhaps that’s why quite a few people still visit my old posts.

As for hobbies, I love photographing nature, especially flowers. I don’t own any fancy camera, and some of my favorite shots were taken with an old, inexpensive digital camera.

I took this photo in 2011 of lotus flowers growing in a large pond in Shanghai. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

Feel free to browse my blog, even if you’re just looking to kill some time. I’d be happy to have you around.
